Student Employment
The LGBTQ+SC hires a team of student workers to help influence and carry out the work of the Center each year. Please see below for a list of our current undergraduate and graduate student worker positions as well as information about our weekly program facilitators.
This program is open to all eligible individuals. The LGBTQ+SC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the University’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or any other prohibited factor.
The LGBTQ+SC will open hiring for 2026-2027 student positions in late spring. Please check back later for more information.
Undergraduate Postions
- Plan collaborative and intersectional programs for the LGBTQ+SC and with other SCC student staff
- Work with Center Supervisor to create, implement, and assess one-time events
- Incorporate accessibility and universal design best practices into all events and programs
- Collaborate with student orgs & campus partners on programming
- Help staff LGBTQ+SC and SCC signature events (SCC Welcome, LGBTQ+SC Open Houses, Commencement Celebration, etc)
- Lead LGBTQ+SC Orientation events, introducing new students to LGBTQ+SC programs and resources
- Assess LGBTQ+SC workshops and programs
- Assist with staffing the LGBTQ+SC front desk, greeting visitors, answering the front desk phone, and cleaning/maintaining LGBTQ+SC space
- Attend weekly student staff meetings and meet once a week with the Center Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
- Check LGBTQ+SC email – respond to inquiries or forward messages where appropriate
- Compile and send out weekly LGBTQ+SC newsletter
- Maintain inventory lists of LGBTQ+SC lounge and office supplies
- Create EngageSC events
- Update LGBTQ+SC attendance data google sheet weekly
- Assist with LGBTQ+SC student staff onboarding documents (list of student staff opening tasks, student staff closing tasks, LGBTQ+SC resource overview talking points)
- Assist with staffing the LGBTQ+SC front desk, greeting visitors, answering the front desk phone, and cleaning/maintaining LGBTQ+SC space
- Attend weekly student staff meetings and meet once a week with the Center Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
- Organize, implement, and staff tabling opportunities for the LGBTQ+SC at campus events and programs
- Develop education and outreach materials
- Staff Admissions/campus partner outreach events for perspective & incoming students
- Reserve space on campus for the LGBTQ+SC to table throughout the semester
- Assist with staffing the LGBTQ+SC front desk, greeting visitors, answering the front desk phone, and cleaning/maintaining LGBTQ+SC space
- Attend weekly student staff meetings and meet once a week with the Center Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
- Create content (i.e. posts, videos, polls, resource slides, etc) to be posted on LGBTQ+SC social media accounts to encourage student engagement
- Promote the LGBTQ+SC’s events and programs through email, website, social media
- Ensure all LGBTQ+SC digital content is accessible (screen-reader compliant, uses alt-text, provides image descriptions, etc)
- Track social media analytics & digital engagement
- Outreach to student orgs and campus partners to advertise LGBTQ+SC events on their platforms and promote relevant student org/campus partner opportunities on LGBTQ+SC platforms
- Outreach to QuASA/RSOs/campus partners to advertise on their social media accounts/listservs, etc
- Assist with staffing the LGBTQ+SC front desk, greeting visitors, answering the front desk phone, and cleaning/maintaining LGBTQ+SC space
- Attend weekly student staff meetings and meet once a week with the Center Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
- Create flyers for events and programs that align with accessibility best practices
- Develop LGBTQ+SC branding and marketing materials
- Update LGBTQ+SC resource guides
- Adhere to USC Identity Guidelines
- Assist with staffing the LGBTQ+SC front desk, greeting visitors, answering the front desk phone, and cleaning/maintaining LGBTQ+SC space
- Attend weekly student staff meetings and meet once a week with the Center Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
Graduate Positions
- Collaborate with staff, campus partners, and student organizations to implement programs for graduate students
- Assist with the development, planning, and execution of large-scale events, including Commencement Celebration and university-wide Heritage Month celebrations
- Develop and analyze programmatic and departmental assessments
- Complete, submit, and maintain files of paperwork associated with program planning, implementation, and evaluation in a timely manner
- Attend weekly staff meetings and meet once a week with the LGBTQ+SC Center Supervisor
- Perform support tasks such as serving on committees, creating educational displays, developing and distributing materials, managing the front desk, and cleaning/maintaining LGBTQ+SC space
- Other duties as assigned
Program Facilitators
In addition to our larger commitment student worker positions, the LGBTQ+SC also hires students to facilitate our weekly programs at a 2 hr/week commitment. Our weekly programs and affinity spaces are important community-building programs for either specific intersectional LGBTQ+ experiences and are open to all students. The duties of our space facilitators include:
- Facilitating the discussion space on a weekly basis
- Pre-plan the activities, discussion topics, etc. that will occur during weekly meetings
- Ensuring participants sign in at each meeting
- Request any and all purchases of materials needed for activities in a timely manner
- Receive and implement feedback from space participants
- Clean/maintain LGBTQ+SC space
- Other duties as assigned.
Internships
The LGBTQ+SC frequently partners with Gender and Sexuality Studies to provide internships opportunities for the Gender and Sexuality Studies internship course, SWMS 311.
