Queer Rising

Queer Rising is an annual leadership retreat for first and second year undergraduate students (including transfer students!) interested in making an impact in the LGBTQ+ community while exploring their leadership potential. Retreat activities are planned and facilitated by professional staff, LGBTQ+ alumni, and current student leaders.

The Fall 2022 retreat is still being planned but will tentatively be held on Friday, October 21st – Sunday, October 23rd.

Who can apply to attend Queer Rising?

This retreat is intended for 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students (including transfer students) to build LGBTQ+ community at USC, to develop tangible leadership skills, and to see themselves as leaders on campus and in their communities. Returning attendees, current student leaders, and graduate students are invited to apply to be retreat facilitators, further enhancing their leadership skills and modeling different forms of LGBTQ+ student leadership for Queer Rising’s annual cohort of emerging leaders.

What workshops and events are offered at the retreat?

We are currently in the process of organizing the 2022-2023 retreat, but here is a sample of our workshops and activities from previous years:

  • Navigating Social Identities at Home, On Campus, and In Community
  • Identifying Your Leadership Style
  • Understanding/Apply the Social Change Model
